A few weeks ago, I had the chance to visit Tabitha’s House, a thrift store for mission. From baby clothes to wedding dresses or home décor to electronics, there is something for everyone at Tabitha’s house.

To learn more about how Tabitha’s House operates as well as the history behind the store, I met with Patrice Hooper—the new director.

The name Tabitha is a biblical name. She was a disciple in Joppa who was “doing good and helping the poor.” Originally established on Mountain Road 24 years ago, the nonprofit found a permanent location in Fallston. After talking with Patrice and learning about all of the amazing ways they help the community and give back, we couldn’t wait to share their story.

An in-house case worker is on hand to help with families or individuals of the community in need. They have a hefty stocked food pantry, daily donations, and various volunteers that are there to make sure everything runs smoothly. By shopping or thrifting at Tabitha’s house, you are helping give back to community members in need. Every item that comes in through the donation drop is thoroughly examined by multiple volunteers to make sure it is in the right condition to find a new home.

Patrice has a background in the corporate world and was looking for a way to help those in need more than she already had been.

“This was a total heart move,” stated Patrice. She explained that she was looking for a sign to make her next career move and when this opportunity presented itself, she couldn’t pass it up.

Volunteers are always welcome at Tabitha’s House as they are 90% volunteer driven. Donations are accepted Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturday from 10-2. Clients are seen Tuesday to Friday on an appointment basis.

Join their mission in helping the community members in need today by shopping at their storefront, located at 112 Connolly Rd # D, Fallston, MD 21047. They also just announced the opening of a second location which will be next to the Epicenter in Edgewood in early 2023!
